Celebrating Safe Communities - Grant

Each year the Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General, Community Programs and Victim Services Division, in partnership with the Provincial Safe Communities Working Group, encourage all community members to participate in a province-wide celebration to celebrate their Safe Community.  Celebrating their Safe Community with an event provides an opportunity for communities throughout British Columbia to promote, support and celebrate local efforts to prevent crime and violence and keep their neighbourhoods safe.  Your event should take place between June 22, 2008 and Sep. 21, 2008, and must include a crime prevention element.   Remember to involve your Police department, local businesses, community organizations, neighbours, or service agencies as partners in planning and hosting your event.

This year, once again, the Block Watch Society of BC, a partner in the Provincial Safe Communities Working Group, is proud to sponsor and support this initiative.   The Society encourages you to participate in an event, whether or not you are in an active Block Watch. The Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General has made available funding for grants of $100 in support of the Safe Community Day celebration.  A Grant application form and an Evaluation form are enclosed.  Please note the first application review for approval will take place May 25th, 2008, followed by June 9th, 2008.  You will be advised if your event will qualify for a grant.  Your event should be held between June 22nd and Sep 21st.  To receive your Grant payment, please submit your Evaluation form promptly after your event.  Please remember, no cheques will be mailed until the Evaluation form has been received by the Society.

We all want to live, work and play in safe communities.  By joining together and being part of initiatives like this, we can make this happen.

On behalf of the Block Watch Society of BC, and the other partners of the Provincial Safe Communities Working Group, thank you for celebrating Safe Communities Day in your community.
